ITU TELECOM AMERICAS 2005: Supporting ICT Growth in the Americas

Broadband, mobile, advanced wireless technologies and the impact of new telecommunications policies and regulations in the Americas region: these are just some of the key themes that will be explored at ITU’s forthcoming ITU TELECOM AMERICAS 2005, to be held in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, from 3-6 October 2005. Bringing together the top names from government and the ICT industry, AMERICAS 2005 will comprise an extensive Exhibition and Forum and more. Through these activities, the event will provide a vital platform for the region’s top names to come together and examine the technologies and policies that are driving the region’s ICT growth and contributing to its economic recovery.

High Caliber Exhibition

ITU’s events traditionally feature a mix of the leading international and regional players and national pavilions. The technologies on view at AMERICAS 2005 will cover the full reach of the ICT industry, from mobile to satellite operators, equipment and more. In addition, AMERICAS 2005 will also feature the types of technologies that are stimulating growth within the Americas ICT sector, helping to promote the development of telecommunications in the region.

Pan-Regional Forum

AMERICAS 2005 will feature a major Forum that will bring together the region’s top players including highest-level representatives of industry and government, operators, service providers, regulators, manufacturers and analysts. The Forum will provide a vital arena for debate on the core issues underpinning the development of the Americas ICT sector, as well as providing the opportunity for debate on key policy and regulatory issues.

ITU is always interested in highlighting the thought leaders and industry experts from within the ICT sector, and is currently inviting proposals for speakers at the Forum. Parties interested in speaking and debating one of the many key issues relating to ICT growth in the region are invited to submit an abstract online here. The deadline for submission of abstracts online is 15 December 2005.

In addition to the main Forum, there will be other events that will complement it. ITU is planning to work with the Institute of Connectivity of the Americas on presenting a special symposium on connectivity. This will be an opportunity for much constructive discussion. ITU is continuing to look for sponsors to expand the footprint of the event.

A Platform for Doing Business and Promoting Growth

Through its Exhibition and Forum as well as through a number of other event opportunities, AMERICAS 2005 will be able to offer a unique platform for regional and global players to come together, meet, network and get business done. The opportunities for networking will enable participants to build upon established relationships and seize new opportunities within growing and developing Americas telecommunications markets.

ITU’s Worldwide Set of Events

As well as the Americas, ITU organizes a set of other TELECOM events across the globe, from ASIA to AFRICA, MIDDLE EAST and ARAB STATES and the flagship ITU TELECOM WORLD event. ITU’s events are always hosted by governments and have a strong regulatory and government as well as industry presence. One of the events takes place in a different region of the world every year, with the WORLD events held every 3 years. If ITU TELECOM WORLD serves as a global meeting place – a nerve center- for industry and government from the four corners of the globe, ITU TELECOM’s portfolio of regional events provide a crucial focal point for local players to meet and address issues of special relevance to each world region.
