Preparation for the WTSA-08

The ITU Regional Development Forum 2008: “Bridging the ICT standardization gap in developing countries," and the WTSA-08 Preparatory Meeting for the Americas region, which took place, respectively, on May 19 and 20 and May 21 and 22, 2008, at the headquarters of Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency of Brazil), in Brasilia, Brazil, at the kind invitation of Anatel.  The Development Forum was intended for executives from national regulatory authorities, telecommunication operators, and service providers in the Americas region.  Moreover, it addressed relevant resolutions from RA-07 (Geneva, 2007), WTDC-06 (Doha, 2006), and WTSA-04 (Florianopolis, 2004) that aim to bridge the standardization gap between developing and developed countries within the framework of resolution 123 (Rev. Antalya, 2006).   

The WTSA-08 Preparatory Meeting for the Americas region aimed at coordinating the views of the region on issues considered to be of particular relevance for consolidation and presentation as regional proposals at the WTSA-08.

On May 23, 2008, was held the meeting of the Rapporteur Group of PCC.I/CITEL that is preparing for WTSA-08. The meetings was chaired by the rapporteurs: Ms. Euridice Palma Salas (Mexico) and Mr. Edgardo Guillermo Clemente (Argentina).

During the meeting, the proposals submitted by the member states were analyzed. At the XIII meeting of PCC.I that will be held in August, inter-american proposals might be able to be approved.

 

The agenda of the meeting was:

 

1.        Opening of the meeting.

2.        Approval of the agenda and calendar.

3.        Inventory of documents.

4.        Report of the previous meeting of the Group.

5.        Report of the Regional Preparatory meeting of the ITU.

6.        Methodology of the Rapporteur Group (Resolution CCP.I/RES. 107 (X-07))

7.        Consideration of the proposals from the Administrations.

8.        Approval of the final documents of the meeting.

9.        Other business.

10.      Date and venue of the next meeting.

The report of the meeting with the proposals that were submitted will be sent out to the members.
