Update on the Implementation of the Inter-American Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA)

Implementation of the Inter-American MRA is now underway. By the end of 2004, there will be seven member states participating in Phase I procedures. There are two member states participating in Phase II procedures. At the V PCC.I meeting held in August 2004, it was decided to hold a workshop on the MRA in 2005 in the United States. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) of the US will organize this workshop with the CITEL Secretariat. PCC.I will seek funding from the United States Telecom Training Institute to sponsor regulators from member states to attend this workshop. Experts from PCC.I had been invited to give presentations on the MRA at the Seminar of the Caribbean Telecom Union to be held in September 2004 in Barbados. The purpose of the MRA workshop is to provide information and advices to regulators and administrators of member states to assist them in the planning and implementation of the MRA. The presentation to the Caribbean member states is one of the ongoing efforts of PCC.I to provide information on the MRA to the various regions of CITEL.
