Within this framework, a new generation of Distance Education emerged in Brazil in the
mid 90's, which promoted the intensive use of communication and information
technology.
The Authors indicate the resources used by this third generation of Distance Education,
and the article provides a very complete outline of the activities of the pioneer
universities that led this modernization process.
Moreover, it is important to highlight the proposal prepared by the Federal University of
Santa Catarina, which is referred to in the article in detail, and its national and
international ties with other university institutions, research centers and companies in the
Telecommunication sector.
The work also includes the
regulatory framework for Distance
Education in Brazil, and provides
the chronological order of this
format development, both in the
formal and informal scope of
education.
This article thoroughly examines the
activities carried out and currently
being implemented in this area by
the public and private universities of
the country.
